Dentist (Selected Information)

This topic become interesting to me because my crush study this stuff. It’s true, we learned so much through pain. LOL, just kidding. If you really interested about this topic, go to Wikipedia, because in this post, I only picked the information that I want.

What is Dentist?’
Based on Wikipedia, A dentist, also known as a Dental Surgeon, is a surgeon who specializes in dentistry, the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases and conditions of the oral cavity.

What is the education requirement to become a Dentist?
The requirement to become a dentist are
1. Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S)
2. Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D)
3. Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S)
4. Doctor of Medicine (M.D) (Specialty Programs)

What is the responsibilities of a Dentist?
By nature of dentist general training, a licensed dentist can carry out most dental treatments such as Restorative (Dental Restorations, Crowns, and Bridges), Orthodontics (Braces), Prosthodontic (Dentures, Crown/bridge), Endodontic (Root Canal) Therapy, Periodontal (Gum) Therapy, and Oral Surgery (Extraction of Teeth). As well as performing examinations, taking radiographs (X-rays) and diagnosis. Additionally, Dentists can further engage in Oral Surgery procedures such as dental implant placement.

Dentists can also prescribe medications such as antibiotics, fluorides, pain killers, local anesthetics, sedatives/hypnotics and other medications that serve in the treatment of the various conditions that arise in the head and neck.

From here, I see, that’s why she is so confident at that time.

All D.D.S and D.M.D degree holders are legally qualified to perform a number of more complex  procedures such as gingival grafts, bone grafting, sinus lifts, and implants, as well as a range of more invasive oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures, though many choose to pursue residencies or other post-doctoral education to augment their abilities.

Several studies have suggested that Dentists and Dental students are at high risk of burnout. During burnout, Dentists experience exhaustion, alienate from work and perform less efficiently.

From here, I finally understood, why that moment happens like that.

Who is the father of Modern Dentistry?
Pierre Fauchard. He was a French Dentist who worked in the first half of the eighteenth century. Fauchard was an exceptionally gifted and talented practitioner, who introduced many innovations to dentistry.

Where did Pierre Fauchard live?
Based on the information that I found in the internet, Pierre Fauchard live in Brittany.

Who invented Braces?
Because many of my friend are wearing braces, this information quite valuable to me, Braces or Orthodontics truly began developing in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1728, French dentist Pierre Fauchard, who is often credited with inventing modern Orthodontics, published a book entitled “The Surgeon Dentist” on methods of straightening teeth.
